FEATURING
THE 9 GUIDING PRINCIPLES OF PILATES PRACTICE
BREATHING
Breathing is the first act of life when we come into the world. Breath oxygenates the blood, promotes energy and connects the mind and body.
CONCENTRATION
The key to mind-body connection is concentration. Consciously being present and aware during Pilates practice allows full attention and commitment to the exercises.
CONTROL
Maintaining good breath flow, proper form, alignment, and appropriate effort puts us in control of the way we move.
CENTERING
In Pilates, all movements come from the “powerhouse,” or core of the body; radiating outward from the center.
BALANCED MUSCLE DEVELOPMENT
Everything that is done on one side of the body will be done on the other side; bringing better posture, comfort in movement and enhanced physical abilities.
PRECISION
Precision is the desired end product of concentration, control, centering and practice.
RHYTHM & FLOW
Movements in Pilates are done with a sense of rhythm. Flow creates smooth transitions and better function.
WHOLE BODY MOVEMENT
The whole body is engaged through breathing, engagement of the core, and use of the limbs. Pilates is meant to integrate movement into a whole body experience.
RELAXATION
Learning to release tension helps us to find ease and flow in movement; an attainable outcome from any good pilates session.
